Escape from San Francisco

When the Pack wants a peaceful break from San Francisco, one of its favorite activities is a hike in the Marin Headlands.  The Marin Headlands are north of San Francisco across the bay.  It's a beautiful stretch of undeveloped (and federally protected) land with fresh air, great views, and more hiking trails than we can count--some of which allow Pack Member Jordi to play off-leash!

The trip starts with just a ho-hum ride over the Golden Gate Bridge.
{A trip across our country's most famous landmark...as seen through our dirty windshield}

Our go-to trek is along the Coastal Trail starting at Rodeo Beach and heading north.  To get there, we park at the Marin Headlands visitor center and walk west to Rodeo Beach.  The beach is pretty much heaven for dogs, so pack member Jordi always runs ahead to get there as fast as he can.
{Jordi running off to the beach.  Pack member Andrew had to run after him to make sure he didn't run into the protected wilderness area opposite the beach}

The beach is beautiful and relaxing.  It's way too cold to swim in though.  Unless you're a Labrador
{Jordi doesn't know what to do with himself once he gets to the beach}

{Not much better than chasing a stick into the freezing Pacific}

The human pack members needed some exercise too though, so after a few fetches, up the Coastal Trail we went.  It can be steep, but it's not that rugged.  In fact some parts are even paved.
{On our way up the Coastal Trail, with Jordi up ahead telling us to hurry our slow butts up}

As you go up into the hills, the views are hard to beat.

{Looking to the North with Tennessee Valley in the background.  Jordi is gassed.  Still gotta make it down buddy}

Thanks for visiting!
